Recovery Rods

Recovery Rods is the brain child of Benjamin English. Started in January this year (2024) Benjamin knows all too well the benefits of fishing and how good the sport can be for people suffering from Mental Health issues and Addiction. Ben started Recovery Rods because fishing helped him with his own issues and his personal struggles with addiction. He is now 10 years sober and has turned his life around so much that he now feels it’s important to give back to the community and get people to understand that fishing seriously can help you.

The team use the facilities of How End Fisheries in Bedfordshire.

Ben and his wife Nikki run events on Monday’s and Thursdays. These services are free as much as possible. They supply all the fishing tackle and bait. Being a self funding organisation all they ask is if people can afford their day ticket then that helps out massively, but they also welcome those who can’t afford it.

Sessions see around 10-15 attendees and cater for all abilities.  Recovery Rods work with several charities in and around the local area. You do not need any experience in fishing as the team are always on hand to teach you the basics and hopefully catch a fish or two.

I know the benefits of fishing and nature for your Mental Health and Personal Wellbeing and its people like Ben and Recovery Rods that are the real unsung heroes. Giving up their free time and at financial impact to themselves. These people have a passion and that’s to help others that have been through or going through a difficult time. They understand the benefits of nature they understand the benefits of fishing.

“Fishing has been a life line and a massive part of my recovery. Being with nature and by the water really calms the mind for me. When I have a rough time I go to the lakes on my own. I've woken up up in my fishing bivvi with a Deer eating my bait, I’ve had Robins sit on my rods. You can not beat that”

What Recovery Rods do is commendable, the world needs more people like Ben and his wife Nikki who give up their time to help others. If you would like to know more about Recovery Rods or how to get involved please visit their Facebook Page, Recovery Rods.
